Frequently Asked Questions

What breeds of dogs do you work with?

I work with any breed, any age, and any size!

Do you train obedience and behavior modification?

Yes. I offer obedience training and specialize in behaviors such as fear, reactivity, resource guarding, aggression, and anxiety.

What is your style of training?

I’m a relationship-based balanced trainer. This means I use multiple tools and approaches. I do not have a cookie cutter approach to training, as all dogs are different. A “relationship based” approach to training means the relationship is always the central and key point of all I do. At every step, I ask myself how my goals fit into a healthy and loving relationship, how any of my choices and actions may affect the relationship between me and the dog. With relationship based communication, what we achieve is a partnership, not built on force but a desire to be with us because we have a relationship. We achieve mutually beneficial results, while at the same time enhancing and strengthening a bond.

Do you use positive reinforcement?

Yes! I mainly use positive reinforcement. However, I am not limited to one method. Without getting too scientific, I make sure to use all four quadrants of operant conditioning. I use positive and negative reinforcement because I believe in telling pups when they are doing something right AND when they are missing the mark. There is real effectiveness in using all four quadrants, rather than only using positive reinforcement, and it is done without intimidation. One of our goals is to gain respect from our dogs, but respect does not mean fear! Opening a clear line of communication with both dog and owner is key and together we will find what works best for you and your pup.

What type of training tools do you use?

I use many tools including but not limited to: food rewards, slip leashes, harnesses, flexi leashes, e-collars, weighted vests, place cots, crates, toys, long lines, clickers and muzzles. Since training is individualistic and personalized to your dog and your goals, what tools will be used is on a case-by-case basis. Some dogs require e-collar training, some require muzzle training, and others do best wearing backpacks for training. Some require all, others require none.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, Zelle, Venmo, & Paypal

Do you require a deposit?

Yes! If you are interested in a board and train program, I require a 50% deposit upon booking. Your training date is held for you when the deposit is sent.

Do you offer payment plans?

On a case by case basis. Although, we are often 2 months booked out and full payment isn’t due until service rendered.

What vaccinations do you require?

The vaccines required for Board and Trains and Full Day Trains are:

  • Bordatella
  • Rabies
  • DHPP

What if my dog is not spayed or neutered?

We prefer Day Train and Board-and-Train dogs to be either spayed or neutered, but it is not required. We understand that some people wait a bit longer. If you know your dog is due to come into heat soon or it happens unexpectedly, training will be rescheduled.
